Biography

Known for their gripping live performances and catchy sounds and melodies, Crimson Sun has reached a completely new level with their currently released new songs. The band aims to find new dimensions and different sounds for every song. The new songs are more straightforward and heavier than before but the band has still not forgotten their versatility. Every song has its own story, in which the listener can relate to through the atmosphere created by the sounds and profound lyrics.

Crimson Sun was founded in 2001 in Hamina by Joni Junnila (guitars) and Teemu Hankanen (vocals & guitars). Later Tomi Paronen (drums) and Jukka Jauhiainen (bass) joined the band, and the first gigs were made in 2003 under the name "Lucretia". After some line-up changes in 2004 the guitarist Joni and Jonne Taavitsainen, who was at the time playing drums in the band, decided that the band's aims were higher than playing just as a hobby. In 2005 the band performed as a supporting act for Pelle Miljoona in Hamina under the name "Cryptic". At that time the band was searching for a new singer and after many candidates, Sini Hanttu joined the band. The first gig with a new line up was in the winter 2005 in a band competition at "Seukkarit" and the band shared the first place in the audience voting.

The band took the name Crimson Sun and started to work on their debut demo, and the keyboard player Jaakko Lahtinen joined the band. First Lights of the Sun was released on February 2006. The band did a couple of gigs but were forced to look for a new singer, since Sini didn't put as much effort in the band as it needed. Tina Jukarainen joined the band in the summer 2006 and in October 2006 Crimson Sun released their second demo Tales Unseen, which was a combination of melodic and progressive metal. A month later the band shared the first place in the band competition of "Seukkarit" and did a few gigs around in Kotka and Hamina.

In spring 2007 the band decided it would be best for Jonne and Jaakko to leave the band as the musical disagreements became too strong. The new drummer Antti Rantavuo was found quickly and the band performed in Äpärärock, Lahti with a guest keyboard player until a couple of months later Saku Moilanen joined Crimson Sun. The band decided to start developing their music to sound more straightforward and heavy and so the songs for the third demo were born. In November 2007, Crimson Sun won the band contest "Seukkarit" and as an award got some studio time to record the drums and bass for the upcoming demo, Tears Of The Dawn, in Tempo Music Studio. The rest of the demo was recorded at E-Major studios with Tero Kinnunen, and it was released in June 2008. It got great reviews and Soundi magazine wrote that Crimson Sun was basically starting to be a full band. After releasing the demo, Crimson Sun played gigs around Southern Finland. In 2009 Saku Moilanen left the band and Miikka Hujanen became the new keyboard player of the band.

In the beginning of 2010 Crimson Sun released six new songs that show completely new sides of the band. In the end of 2010, the band parted ways with singer Tina Jukarainen.

After agonizing search, Sini Seppälä joined the band at the end of 2011.

New EP "The Border" was released May 2013.

Crimson Sun has reached a completely new level with their currently release, Towards The Light, their first full-length.
